There is some great material in this report from the UK. While economic development is only one part of the picture, this does a pretty good job of that part. Local government funding of the arts is a hot topic in the UK. Many are cutting back as part of the austerity measures. Others are looking at new ways of investing in the arts at the same time as arts organisations are forced to consider new business models themselves.
