Following an earlier post on youth social action, I discovered a WA initiative called Kids Who Give, which aims to raise “a generation of socially aware, caring, young Western Australians”. This is targeted at a younger age group – 12 years and under, to encourage as many children as possible to be more charitable; to give their time, treasure or talent to people or causes in need. This could be on an individual basis, a group of friends getting together, or through an organisation such as a school or club. His Excellency Mr Malcolm McCusker AC CVO QC, Governor of Western Australia to the region, Mrs Tonya McCusker and Young Australian of the Year Akram Azimi recently toured a number of Wheatbelt schools in support of Kids Who Give WA. You can read about their visit in the Wheatbelt Development Commission newsletter here.
