Localise is excited to be contributing to local government in the Pacific. Mark Dacombe is currently contracted to VNG International to provide support for the strengthening of Local Government Associations in the Pacific.
The project is funded by the European Union and is being delivered in the African, Caribbean and Pacific regions (ACP). The Cotonou Agreement, which is is the most comprehensive partnership agreement between developing countries and the EU to date, underpins the project. It formalises the role of local government as complementary actors to central governments in development co-operation.
Mark is providing tailor-made technical assistance to Local Government Associations in Kiribati, the Marshall Islands and Vanuatu to assist the adoption and implementation of their policy, communication and advocacy strategies and to monitor and evaluate their progress in advocacy. Later in the project, which runs until June 2013, information on good practices in political dialogues with national institutions and development partners will be written up and presented by selected Local Government Associations at a seminar for ACP countries in The Hague.
The other partners in delivering the programme in the Pacific are the Commonwealth Local Government Forum and the Foundation of the Peoples of the South Pacific International Regional Secretariat.
